To transfer the same file in the Stora Desktop app, you have to click on the folder, select “upload” from the drop-down menu, and then a new pop-up window appears. Here, you can either navigate to the file you want to add, or you can select the “Drag and Drop” option, which allows you to drag your file to the new window.

This is a minor annoyance, though, and it’s one that I quickly forgot about when I began exploring the rest of the app’s features. You can easily create a slide show of the photos you’ve uploaded, or create an album and upload it to a site like Facebook.

But where things get more interesting is when you begin exploring the embedded media player. Stora’s software has its own multimedia player, so you can play back music and video files from within the app. Just click on the file you want to view, or the playlist you want to listen to, and a new pop-up window with the player appears. It’s remarkably simple, and you don’t need to launch any external applications…unless your file format isn’t supported by the player. And the file format support could be better. Right now, the Stora player supports just a handful of formats (MP3 audio files, and MPEG-4, MOV, and FLV video files).

Sharing content is another strong point for the Stora. To access your content remotely, you just point your browser to mystora.com, and you can quickly navigate to your device. The web-based interface is nearly identical to the Stora Desktop app, so right away, you’re in familiar territory. Laptop
One of the best investments you can make when you go to college is a laptop. Many campuses are completely wireless. You will love being able to take your computer to your classes, check e-mail in the student center, and type papers in the library. A laptop can also double as a music player or DVD player in a pinch. Plus, it is much less bulky than a desktop system, and you don't have to worry about it being stolen while you're out of your dorm room.

Portable Electronics
Once you get all of your stuff in your room on move-in day, you will realize how small it really is. Find as many portable electronic items as you can. They can be stowed away after use and won't take up as much space as their more permanent counterparts. You can watch movies on a portable DVD player, talk and text message on your cell phone, listen to music on an MP3 player or portable CD player, and take pictures with a digital camera. Saving space is the key.

Flip Flops
Seriously, your dorm will likely be tolerably clean, but unless you want a nasty foot rash, invest in several pairs of flip flops. You should always wear a pair in the shower or when you're in the bathroom. After all, you may be sharing with 30 other people. Flip flops are also great when you're hanging out around the dorm.

Shower Caddy
You won't have your own sink or bathroom cabinets in college, and you might be standing in line to shower and brush your teeth at peek times. You don't want your personal hygiene items strewn all over the bathroom. Who wants to use a toothbrush that has been on the floor?

Storage Bins and Hangers
Storage bins are amazingly useful. You can organize books, clothes, and miscellaneous items. Best of all, you can slide them under your bed or stack them in your closet. Durable hangers will also come in handy. There are even hangers with space for up to five pairs of pants. Keeping your clothes off your closet floor is a top priority.

Microwave/Mini Fridge
Even though cafeteria food has improved, there will still be times when you want to grab a meal in your room or need a late night snack. There are so many microwaveable foods that you're sure to use it often. You can store soda, juice, and maybe even a little ice cream in your fridge. If possible, stack your microwave and mini fridge on top of eachother to save space.

Basic Kitchen Supplies
Microwaveable mac and cheese gets old after a while, so you may want to bring some basic kitchen supplies with you, including a few pots and pans and cooking utensils. Most dorms have a shared kitchen, but you may not want to use the community supplies. After all, not every college student is concerned about dishwashing.

Kleenex
If you share a bathroom, toilet paper and paper towels are provided. But, you will definitely not want to walk down to the bathroom at 3 A.M. just because you have to blow your nose. Also, when you have your first away-from-home cold, you won't want to use rough paper towels on your already-sore nose. Take a few boxes of Kleenex with you to start the semester.

First Aid Kit
You won't think about this item until you need it. A good first aid kit should have antiseptic solution, bandages, gauze, an ice pack, a hot pack, a thermometer, and any over-the-counter or prescription medications you use regularly. Eventually, every college student gets a scrape or succumbs to the flu.

Room Furnishings
While your dorm room probably won't ever feel like your childhood home, you can make your new surroundings more comfortable by adding some furnishings. Throw rugs are easy to move when cleaning and will provide you with warmth on winter mornings. Getting out of bed is even harder when the floor is cold. A few comfy dorm room chairs are essential. Many retail stores sell fold-up chairs just for college students. If you have room, a day bed may also be a good option. Furnishings let you put your own special touch on the place you'll be living for a year.

THE BROTHERS BLOOM
As the lesser third of the /Filmcast hosts, I feel as though (or I’d like to kid myself into thinking that) I’ve developed enough of a relationship with writer/director Rian Johnson that I went into The Brothers Bloom with a bit of a bias. That much should be admitted before I join my colleagues in saying I rather enjoyed the film, even if not quite to the same extent as David Chen, who rated it his top pick of ‘09 and has been championing the film for quite some time now. A brief paragraph isn’t nearly enough to summarize my thoughts on Bloom, so I’ll stick to the bullet points: it’s stylish as all hell, is loaded with sharp dialogue, has great performances, and exudes filmic love in every frame. It also has a killer opening that essentially acts as its own self-contained short film and manages to perfectly introduce the two con men as youngsters, as well as set in place the central themes of the movie. Those are the things that I love about The Brothers Bloom, and each item truthfully deserves its own paragraph to illustrate just why those elements are so great. My problems with the film, meanwhile, can’t be summarized in such succinct terms, so I’ll just stick with my least nitpicky one: after about an hour, the constant twists and turns of the narrative eventually grow tiresome and never result in anything particularly satisfying. One might argue that the con itself becomes irrelevant in the midst of the relationships at the core of the film, both between the brothers and the romance between Brody and Weisz, but so much attention is paid to expanding on and playing off of those twists and turns that I really wish the film would’ve given me more of a reason to care about them. Even with that disconnect though, the film is still one of the more interesting, ambitious efforts of ‘09, and is deserving of far more love than it has received thus far. If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out.

Digital archivist Jason Scott unveiled the beautiful throwback piece you see above as packaging art for Get Lamp, his upcoming documentary on the history of text adventure games and their creators. Illustrated by Lukas Ketner, the same talented fellow behind Panic's Atari 2600 boxarts, this artwork will grace the (two-disc) DVD case's inside three panels.

Scott says he's so happy with the commissioned artwork, he's looking into the possibility of creating high-quality prints and selling the image as a poster. He wants to hear from others, though, on whether they want to be notified if the poster ever goes on sale and what price they would like to pay for it. The director also recently announced that watching Get Lamp is a “partially interactive” experience. Like the text adventures it examines, the documentary stops and splits into multiple directions, allowing different paths through the film. You can choose to ignore the branching feature and watch every clip or have the movie choose different paths for you:

“This is how I can have it have about 3 hours of movie (which is roughly what it is looking like) but not murder the audience. It will also allow you to address the Interactive Fiction story from multiple angles, which otherwise would be competing for your attention.

It will, of course, be possible to skip the interactive portion and just see the different mixes, and it will also be possible to say 'just go ahead and show me that 3 hour movie'. But this potential for having some amount of say on the film’s progress is, to me, part of the nature of interactive fiction, and the movie will reflect it.”
